Will Germany have a chance for the title for this upcoming World Cup ?

Expectations of Winning the World Cup will crush Young German National Team.
Every four years millions of soccer fans are looking forward towards the biggest sporting event in the world. Each nation builds up their expectations and hopes to go far in the tournament. Especially the German Team is bound to win this year according to German News Papers and Media. This build up confidence and pressure is due to their last two world cup performances. In the World Cup 2002 the German National Team got beaten in the finals and in 2006 they finished third on their home soil. Furthermore the second place in the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 didn’t help in bringing the emotions and expectations to a halt.
Being that close of winning the pot over the last years, the whole nation expects to gain the fourth star on the jersey, which is long time overdue. The problem though, is that this year the German players are much younger and less experienced than their predecessors. The average player is 24 years old and hasn’t had that much experience over the last years. Since Ballacks, Traesch and Westermann can’t play due to injuries the German team has lost important players that are important for the overall robust structure of the team. Furthermore the death of Robert Enke, the experienced and best German goal keeper at that time opens a wide hole in the German defense. Now the young Phillip Lahm has to take over the position as the team captain and lead the team towards a successful World Cup finish.
In the Group phase Germany will have to face Ghana, Serbia and Australia. All those teams are the underdogs in this group, but are known for being tough to beat. These smaller countries can never be underestimated, especially Ghana this year since the World Cup is on their continent. Therefore the chances are very high that Germany and Ghana will fight for the first place in Group D. The last game of the first group phase will determine which team will play against the second team of Group C. Looking at Group C the favorites for advancing into the next round are England and USA respectively. The easier opponent would surely be USA rather than England. Germany and England are known for their rivalry and defensive play. Therefore I anticipate that Germany as leader in Group D will face USA the runner up in Group C. This German Team is still capable in beating the USA even though the US team has shown over the last World Cups that their team is more robust and much more technical. The next possible opponents that are highly favored are Argentina or Mexico. Therefore the Quarter Final should be Germany against Argentina. That game will be very difficult for the young German team since Argentina is one of the favorites to win the tournament.
In the last world cup the spectators have seen the dedication Argentina has to win even after a game is over. Therefore I think that the Quarter Finals are going to be the end of the line for Germany’s quest in regaining the 4th World Championship. Even in case that Germany would win their match against Argentina their next opponents could be Spain and then Brazil in the Final. These prospects are extremely strong and have much more experience than this young German team.
Furthermore the expectations of winning the world cup will paralyze the players even more throughout the Group of 16 as well as the Quarter Finals. I wish I could have my hopes up a bit more since I am German as well, but realistically speaking our team is not experienced enough to cope with the expectations and the caliber of its potential opponents after the round of 16.
But as we know, the Germans are normally getting better and better during a tournament and can never be written off. Therefore there is still hope at the end of the tunnel and I will support them as much as I can, so that they hopefully excel my limited expectations.
